Anyways. My brother-in-law got his own place and moved out last weekend. My sister-in-law and her fiance are coming up this weekend to help us lay tile in the kitchen, so I had to get the guest rooms cleaned up in a hurry so they would be presentable for guests again. I have had all the stuff for these rooms in storage for a couple of years, so it was fun to pull them out again. These rooms are now (by far) the cleanest rooms in the house!
The Bedroom:
Pictures to come of the bathroom, my computer is being slow, grrrr........
So now someone needs to come stay with me! I am on my second week in the ER and now actually have to do something instead of finding a corner to press myself into. I am learning a lot and most of it is pretty straightforward stuff. I haven't seen anything too crazy yet, but I am sure I will- all the nurses have stories.....
One skill I am working on improving is IV sticks. On the floor I am used to working on, people usually either have central access, or they have IV's from surgery and don't stay long enough to need new ones. Long story short we don't start a lot of IV's on the surgical floor and I really suck at them. Not only do you start about a million IV's in the ER, we also draw our own labs, which is something I have never done either. I know, its shocking that I don't know how to do this, my husband was appalled. Its not that I don't know how to do it- I know the theory and mechanics of it. But its one of those skills that takes finess and practice, you are basically stabbing blindly at a little target and the only way to get better at it is practice and experience. But no one likes to be practiced on. I am oretty confident that by the end of my orientation I will be, not an expert, but hopefully reasonably proficient at this skill. The fact that we have to stick kids too makes me want to learn because if its your kid that needs an IV right away, I want to be able to do that, or at least have a chance at it. Yesterday I was 1 for 3. Sucktastic. But I work all weekend so I hope my stats improve.
Since its the off season for weddings, I feel obligated to get as much done around the house as I possibly can while I can. The garage got cleaned out last weekend and looks much better, but its still full of stuff. I got the downstairs freezer defrosted which had become a solid mass of ice (not my fault I swear) and as I mentioned we are laying tile this weekend. Next on my list is painting the master bedroom, future nursery, and guest bedroom and shampooing carpets. Unfortunately, all I really feel like doing is sleeping all day. But I can sleep when I'm dead.
