Getting tired of winter

Its too cold and crappy out.  But the kitchen rennovations are (almost) done.  All thats left are new countertops, but we will probably wait a few weeks.  I was all ready to take some pictures to share and try out my new memory card: http://www.eye.fi/ which wirelessly uploads pics from your camera to your computer and then posts them online automatically.  But when I hooked it up to my computer to format it, the company website poped up and said my card was defective and they were sending me a new one.  Buzz kill!  So now I have to wait long to try it out.  Dang it all I am impatient and hate waiting for things.  Which is ironic because I shop on the internet all the time.

I lost my cell phone a few weeks ago, no idea where it is.  I ordered a Palm Centro from Verizon and I'm sure it will have far more features than I will ever be able to use.  But I am excited to get it and play with it.  Is it bad that the only reason I picked it is for the full keyboard?

I have no plans this weekend except to be super-lazy and sleep a lot.

Spring Cleaning

Well, maybe not spring because that implies nice weather.  It is not as cold this week, but I would not call 36 degrees warm by any stretch if the imagination.

Anyways.  My brother-in-law got his own place and moved out last weekend.  My sister-in-law and her fiance are coming up this weekend to help us lay tile in the kitchen, so I had to get the guest rooms cleaned up in a hurry so they would be presentable for guests again.  I have had all the stuff for these rooms in storage for a couple of years, so it was fun to pull them out again.  These rooms are now (by far) the cleanest rooms in the house!

The Bedroom:

Pictures to come of the bathroom, my computer is being slow, grrrr........

So now someone needs to come stay with me!  I am on my second week in the ER and now actually have to do something instead of finding a corner to press myself into.  I am learning a lot and most of it is pretty straightforward stuff.  I haven't seen anything too crazy yet, but I am sure I will- all the nurses have stories.....

One skill I am working on improving is IV sticks.  On the floor I am used to working on, people usually either have central access, or they have IV's from surgery and don't stay long enough to need new ones.  Long story short we don't start a lot of IV's on the surgical floor and I really suck at them.  Not only do you start about a million IV's in the ER, we also draw our own labs, which is something I have never done either.  I know, its shocking that I don't know how to do this, my husband was appalled.  Its not that I don't know how to do it- I know the theory and mechanics of it.  But its one of those skills that takes finess and practice, you are basically stabbing blindly at a little target and the only way to get better at it is practice and experience.  But no one likes to be practiced on.  I am oretty confident that by the end of my orientation I will be, not an expert, but hopefully reasonably proficient at this skill.  The fact that we have to stick kids too makes me want to learn because if its your kid that needs an IV right away, I want to be able to do that, or at least have a chance at it.  Yesterday I was 1 for 3.  Sucktastic.  But I work all weekend so I hope my stats improve.

Since its the off season for weddings, I feel obligated to get as much done around the house as I possibly can while I can.  The garage got cleaned out last weekend and looks much better, but its still full of stuff.  I got the downstairs freezer defrosted which had become a solid mass of ice (not my fault I swear) and as I mentioned we are laying tile this weekend.  Next on my list is painting the master bedroom, future nursery, and guest bedroom and shampooing carpets.  Unfortunately, all I really feel like doing is sleeping all day.  But I can sleep when I'm dead.

Happy Birthday Baby!

So we begin the last year of your 20's, our eighth year together, and hopefully our first year as parents.  Thank you for loving me and thank you for being born!  I love you forever.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!

It is cold.  Like really freakin' cold.  Like your nose hairs freeze in the time it takes to walk to your car.  Like your toes are numb all day long.  Like you know exactly what Dante had in mind for the traitors and betrayers.

Get the picture?  Pretty much a miserable day.  I am making a fried egg sandwhich (perfect comfort food- I always eat like I am 7 years old when given the choice) for a snack and defrosting chicken enchiladas for dinner tomorrow.  Someone get me out of South Dakota!!!!

Happy 2009!

Our new year is off to a great start!  I figured this would be a great time to start a blog and try and keep track of it all.  The business is off to a great start and we are very busy right now booking weddings.  Luckily we have a few months before they start to maybe relax a little and make sure all our ducks are in a row.  Kelly likes being busy for the most part, even though some things get overlooked around the house in the meantime.
I am coming up on a year at Sanford as an RN on the surgical unit.  I really love my job and I learn something everyday.  This week I started a new position there.  I am a 'crosstrainer' meaning I share 2 full time jobs with another nurse- one on the surgical unit and one in the ER.  I am really excited at the prospect of the ER- I have plenty to learn, but I know I will be a muh better nurse for it.  I will spent alternating months on each unit.  I was told today that it takes 2-3 years to feel competent and comfortable as an ER nurse, so twice as long for me- here's hoping I learn quickly!
After over 2 years, Kelly's brother is finally moving out on Saturday- I can't wait to have our house back to ourselves!  I will have some work ahead of me getting his rooms cleaned up and turned into guest areas again, but I am excited at the prospect.  We will be tiling the kitchen soon and I plan to paint some rooms, the guest room, our bedroom, and maybe the future nursery, although maybe that would be testing fate.
It is sooo cold right now- it makes me feel very lazy.  Lately all I want to do is curl up in bed with a good book and sleep a lot.  I can't wait for warmer weather.
